Re: Silas and Benjamin West, Sampson Co., NC

How are you doing? I am fine. Your answer in your response made me wonder about your West Family. Has your family taken the DNA test? My brother participated in the WEST DNA PROJECT.

We (African Americans) match 5 other WEST who are White 25 markers out of 25 and we are Halogroup I1C. In this group we are the only African Americans who have tested so far.

Some of their WEST ancestors came from Rapides Parishes in LA. Some of this group moved to KS and some later moved to AR.

Some of the WEST from SC, moved to TN>MS, then some of the descendants moved to parts of TX and elsewhere.

This family goes back to 1755. Also some of the WEST descendants from the first wife's death with 10 children stayed in Westbrook Township, Sampson County, NC. where we are from.

After the second marriage and 10 children was when the WEST ancestor moved to GA and that's where he died.

We believe this group from NC/GA are our direct ancestors.
NOTE: We have not established how these DNA's connect yet either. We need more proof and people to take the DNA test of both races. Now my g grandfather and his brother lived in dwellings enumerated on both sides of the slaveowner in 1870 census.

We believe that this slaveowner was my g grandfather's dad. This DNA is the only information we have. This West Slaveowner had 5 slaves, one of the slaves being Mulatto, we think is my g grandfather dad. We are trying to get the proof.

It's been hard because he died before the birth and death certs. were issued. In NC the Certs were not issued until 1913 and grandpa Silas died in 1904. That's our dead-end. We still don't know who the mother was, Possibly from Africa. G Grandpa Silas had a brother, Benjamin who was raised by the slave holder acccorind to his death cert.I have Benjamin's death certs. who died in 1916.

We are stalled now. But I have been in touch with all these descendants for about over 6 years and we've been trying to figure this all out. They have been very helpful, I must tell you, except maybe one. He was friendly, but not willing to give information or maybe did not know enough to tell about the situation.

George thanks for you comments, you started me wondering as to whether some of your West could be related to my West. Thanks again and good luck to you also.
