Unfortunately, I have since excluded the recent find of Handy West aka Handy Bethea's Civil War Pension Record from our family tree because his widow in 1900 was named Brazilia Bethea and the pension was filed for in SC.

Handy West in our tree died a widower between 1910 and 1920 in Coweta, GA. But, the find still illustrates that some black men enlisted and served under one surname and the pension was filed for under another. Just wanted to clear that up. Thanks!
