AfriGeneas Brick Wall Forum
WILLIAMS, ONEIL, TN
One of my major brick walls is my great grandmother and her parents. Her name was Louise WILLIAMS at birth. According to her death certificate from Topeka KS she was 69 at her time of death in 1925 - which would place her birth in 1856. On the death certificate her parents were listed as:
Her place of birth - Nashville TN.
I have located her in 1900, 1910, 1920 census records with a variety of surnames - and children.
The earliest record found was 1900 where she is listed as Lou Edmondson in Nashville. Family records indicate she was called "Lou".
She was indexed mis-spelled and I have submitted a correction to ancestry:
Her children were:
George Shelvy OLIVER born 07 Jan 1875 Nashville (father John OLIVER)
There are several discrepancies in the 1900 record. Her son Reuben is listed as surname JONES - I knew him to be THOMPSON, and have his WW2 records and other family data.
Her birthplace is listed as AL. Other records - marriage to George, census records of her children, and death record (information given by her daughter Ophelia) says TN.
The last census record she is found in is in 1920:
Name: Louisa Perkins
I have searched for her in 1880 and 1870 in TN and AL and have not found her.
I have not found my grandfather George Shelvy(sometimes spelled Shelby) OLIVER in 1880 at age 5 either. I have located his father John OLIVER (I think) in 1870 - single in Nashville. I have found my grandfather - married in 1900 in Topeka, and in a KS state census of 1895 living with relatives in KS.
I have not found Louise (Lou) in 1870 or 1880, or her parents - Frank and Fanny WILLIAMS in either AL or TN (or the entire census) Have searched for both Williams and ONeil (ONeal) as well.
I have her marriage record to George EDMONDSON in Nashville, in which to confuse things even more, she is listed as Ella WILLIAMS. Her birthplace is listed as TN. No parents listed.
There is a possibility that she was not ever married to John OLIVER (father of my grandfather) and was married to a Willliam Henry JONES
There is a possibility that she may be:
(I'm grasping at straws here)
Her son Reuben Thompson was born 1891. I have his WW1 draft registration and his marriage record. It does not have his parents names.
Have not been able to get birth records for Reuben or my grandfather George Oliver from Nashville. Her son Ernest JONES does not exsist in any records other than the 1900 census - and I never heard my father or grandfather speak of him.
Am stumped at this point. Have made contact with the family of Ophelia's husband - they knew nothing about her, or her mom.
Have mailed out letters, with photos - to folks I think might be related.
I go back and research the census from time to time, still no luck.
If someone would take a look for Fanny or Fannie (ONEIL) WILLIAMS
I may have missed them.
