I saw your post and thought I would try to help. I just found a missing census of my great grandmother. Her name was Zany Bradley. I could not find anything in Ancestry.com census files UNTIL I spelled her name incorrectly. I found her in the 1880 census as Saney Bradly and in the 1870 census as kinney Bradley. So try to spell the name as someone might hear it if it is spoken. Those census takers were tired from all that walking and wrote it down the way it was said. And depending on how the name was spoken, perhaps with an accent or southern twang, it could be spelled differently.
