Re: Goins of Belmont Co., OH and Albemarle Co., VA (update)
In Response To: Goins of Belmont Co., OH and Albemarle Co., VA ()
I was going through my notes and came across the copy of the order book and a message sent by the person who found it.
" There is a registration for Michael Going (Albemarle Order Book 1828, page 4)
"Michael Going a man of Colour personally appearing in Court and producing satisfactory evidence of his freedom, It is Ordered that the following be entered as his Register to Wit, aged 23 years 5 feet 11 1/2 Inches high of light Complexion, no scars or marks percievable all of which is Ordered to be certified"
I checked my images of manuscript certificates from the Library of Virginia and did not see a certificate for Michael. I believe this registration for Michael is one of the few, if not the only, documents on him in Albemarle. Henderson Going registered the same day as Michael and may be a brother. If you check the published 1833 list, you will fine Henderson living "near Dunns." On 4 March 1828 John, William, and Fountain Going registered. These five men may be brothers; they are certainly cousins. All were tall and of light complection and lived in the north of Albemarle, "near Dunns." I have certificates for John, William, and Fountain.
When I have time to check additional records, it may be possible to speculate about who Michael's parents were. I believe it is fairly certain that his grandmother was Agnes Going of Louisa. I am sure you have much information on her."
Henderson is Sherrod's son and I don't which sibling of Sherrod's maybe Michael's parent. Agnes, I believe is Sherrod's mother and Michael's grandmother. I am looking for the parent of Michael.
