Thanks! That is indeed interesting and something that I had not seen. I wonder if George C. Mendenhall orchestrated this or if his wife Delphine followed through with this emancipation. George C died unexpectedly in the spring of 1860. He drowned as he attempted to cross Fuller Ford on the Uwharrie River I also know that his son from his first marriage, James Ruffin Mendenhall, took issue with the emancipation of any slaves and gave his step mother trouble as he regarded the slaves his own(Mendenhall Family Association). Do your records indicate the year this family actually registered? Thanks again! Each day brings another piece to the puzzle.
