Wm. CHINN VA Update

I received the Death Certificate for ELIZABETH CHINN From Rappahannnock today.

I was so excited because I hoped to learn so much from the information.

She was living in Pittsburgh when she died. She was at the home of her two daughters, Delilah CHINN CLARK and Minnie CHINN LEE.

Minnie's husband, John LEE was the informant.

He reported that she was a "Widow."

Since I have found no absolute documents that prove that WILLIAM CHINN, who was suppose to be her husband, ever lived, all I have to go on is that in 1880 she was listed as "SINGLE" and when she died
in 1929, she was "Widowed." She never went by any name other than ELIZABETH CHINN to my knowledge.

One researcher suggested that ELIABETH's children were by J. MENEFEE, a white lawyer that she worked for, his wife had died before the children of ELIZABETH were born.

# 1 During that time, was there a general rule for how a Black women that had children by a White man was supposed to identify herself without naming the real father?

# 2 The Death Certificate also states that her father was Jos. GREYSON(who was listed as her stepfather in 1990 Census) and her mother was SALLIE GREYSON (if we use the 1880 information, Sallie would not have been her mother's "maiden" name.

Next Steps: I'm not sure what to do next.
Should I keep sending for DC for her children and hope that one will tell the truth?

Any other sources would be appreciated.
