Currently waiting for the Death Certificate for my gg-grandmother Mary (DORTRY)GRANT born 1868, wife of Amos GRANT, in hopes of parent verification. Currently stands that parents were Daniel DORTRY (b.VA) and Betsy (b.Ga) of 1870 Oglethorpe County based on census research. Family unit missing from the 1880 census of Ga including the search of various spellings and first name only, ect. The slave owner descendant of the Grant/Brown family I work with suggested that I check out the DAUGHTRY/DAWTRY (various spellings)in nextdoor Butts County (former slaves of Wiley DAUGHTRY of Va.), but found no Mary as a child to these few families.
The marriage index of Henry County also shows the spelling as DORTRY. Need some confirmation so please wish me luck on the dc
