No matter how hard I try, wall won't break!

Greetings Everyone!

I have been trying to break down a wall to at least get a peak at my past. I am researching my deceased grandmother's family who she knew very little about. According to folktales, her mother died when she was a child and was buried under the surname of the family she worked for btwn 1923 - 1930 because the cementary didn't accept african americans. No one knew the name and her husband I can't find past my grandmother's birth record or 1920 Ohio Census. Any help in guiding me to break a wall will be greatly appreciated. I have joined multiple groups of areas reported to have lived in seeking info and received "NO INFORMATION" reports from inquiries to the States' Vital Records. Below is what I have learned thus far:

Enda B Billings or Billingsly (Williams) b. apprx 1896
Ike (Isaac) Williams b. apprx 1875

***Lived in Ironton, Lawrence Cnty Ohio (poss moved to Detroit)

Children:

Edith C Williams b. 3/9/1923 d. 1994
(Info above from birth record I hold. But it's recorded as 2/9/1923 in Lawrence County, Ohio per website)

Kenneth J. Williams b. 7/28/1921(20) d. 1975
(no record found on his birth anywhere)
I do have Soc Sec. # and requested orig. application under FOIA, but parentage was blocked by SSA. I did appeal and awaiting decision)

***Both reported to have been born in Ironton, Ohio.

Edith was my grandmother.

Any info shared or leads to a new path would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.............April
