AfriGeneas Brick Wall Forum

Catherine Russell-Maynard

My brickwall is finding information on my g-grandmother Catherine Maynard. She was born in Barbados but lived in Harlem NYC for many years. Not much is known about her because most of her relatives have passed on. The only proof of her existence is on my grandfather's death certificate. On there it states her maiden name "Russell".

Her children were;
Helen Russell-b: 1898?
Harold Yard (my grandfather)b; approx 1899. Death certificate states he was 40 yrs old at the time of death (1938). No birth date recorded.
Eloise Davis (married name)
Irene Maynard? (not sure if she went by Maynard or Russell)

Eloise and Irene I believe was born in NYC. However Helen and Harold was born in Barbados. Catherine may have married a MAYNARD, however, she lived in Harlem for many years during the late 1930's through the 1950's. She died in NYC between 1955 and 1959. Some older relatives (we share her as our great grandmother)remember when she past away and attended the funeral, but they were children themselves. All they can confirm is that she is buried in NYC, do not remember where. Eloise has a granddaughter named Deidra. But I don't know her last name. It would be a blessing if I was to see her again. Myself Deidra and 2 cousins of mine are the only surviving relatives of Catherine Maynard.

I spoke with a older cousin who remember her as a child. He too use to ask questions and he stated as a child, he remembered she (Catherine) mentioned the name Waterman. He remebered she mentioning her (mother) who name was Moriah, the last name he did know. Maybe (Waterman)

Now, with this little information, I looked everywhere, ellisisland.org the NYC Death Index, Afrigeneas, Familysearch.org, internment.org, ect. I even tried searching in New Jersey because many black people from NYC were buried there because it was cheaper. I tried Catherine Maynard and Catherine Russell. I even looked in the Italian Death Index-NYC. There are a couple of Maynards but w/o dates I am up a "BRICKWALL" I don't want to buy someone else D.C.

If there is anyone that could help me, please contact me vetti90@hotmail.com
