Re: Dennison Cook in Freedmen's Bureau?
In Response To: Dennison Cook in Freedmen's Bureau? ()
Since I replied to the post last night I found the letter in the Freedmen's Bureau Records on Family Search. You might want to read the introduction to the records, which will give you a context on the workings of the Freedmen's Bureau in Virginia...and the locations of the offices and the officers who manned those officers. Lawrenceville VA is in Brunswick County VA and was the location of an Assistant Subassistant Commissioner) Lt. F. M. Kimball
Lawrenceville, VA
States that the names of the children of LUCY COOK colored widow of LEWIS COOK deceased are HOLLAND, THOMAS, DENNISON, MATHEW, SALLY all told that 100 dollars were sent to the Savings Bank by Lt. D??? from widow logbook???. The deeds and letter provide you with a large number of names, confirming, inferring and confusing relationships. You will have to continue to carefully review each document. Selma
