Thanks for your assistance. Below are the answers to your questions.
Where is R. M. in 1880?
In 1880, he is enumerated as Roach Whitaker in the Red River County, Texas. He is living in the household with a Bill Stanley, his mother Julia Whitaker and siblings L.A. (Mary) and Jack Whitaker.
Bible records states that he was born in Clarksville, Red River County, Texas on 15 July 1878. In addition, his father was William Stanley.
Oral history stated that his mother was Julia Whitaker.
Also the tax records, do they specify more details about where in Cass County he lived?
The county tax roll does not list location.
And his son Herbert, would he be living with Mary in 1910? Is Mary alive in 1910? I did not find any marriage for her between her divorce and 1910.
Mary is alive in 1910. She also remarried but her son Herbert is not living with her. I will provide you the information on her second marriage.
He married Mary Warren in 1900. The marriage certificate listed his name as R. M. Stanley. He divorced Mary (Warren) Stanley in 1909. The divorce records are listed under R. M. Stanley vs. Mary Stanley. After the divorced he married Malissie Sampson on 20 Dec 1910. The certificate listed their names as Matthew Stanley and Molissie Sampson.
And lastly: Do you know the parents of R. M.? Are they alive in 1900?
His father appeared to have died aft. 1890. His mother Julia Whitaker is living in Cass County, Texas with the surname Taylor.
Also two of his sisters living in Cass County, Texas in 1900 - Mary who was married to Edmond McGary and Cressie (Thracia) Stanley.
The 1918 WW 1 Draft Registration Card would be the last document that he would use the intial "R" in his name.
