While browsing with Google today, I found this Englishman's (or Cornishman's - as he might prefer) website that seems particularly applicable to our consideration of "Spirits of the Passage."

It contains good information on formerly enslaved Africans who lived in England in the late 1700s, including Olaudah Equiano,Ignatius Sancho, and Quobna Ottobah Cugoano. Two of these men wrote autobiographical books and letters of the third were published posthumously. The site includes excepts from writings of each author.

The site also contains much info about African slavery and English abolitionists.
