I hear you, as I'm a big, big advocate of 'Cite Your Sources'.

However, I thought Lalita Tademy did a gracious and competent thing by including descendent charts, copies of letters and documents, and photos throughout the body of her book.

Clever, I think, to keep it in 'novel' form rather than placing a bunch of 'academic' trappings upon it - to attract the most readers.

None the less, 'Cane River' is a must read for anyone doing African-American genealogy.
