I read this book when I first began my genealogical research and it helped tremendously with the task of understanding my grandfather's combat experience while in France during WWI. Even if I had not used this book for my family research, I would have read it anyway for it provides the reader with the true stories of our black soldiers and officers who demonstrated patriotism in the face of racism. I recommend it!
