Re: [Research] Pioneer Black female writer NOT Bla

Just wanted to note that ethnic romanticism is a very real hazard across the board, not just for Black academics, but for all. I still respect Dr. Gates work and he deserves credit for directing the student to research an accurate biography. The Kennewick Man, Caucasian origin controversy, is another example of how ethnic romanticism taints an honest recognition and search for the facts. Scientists actually sued to stop repatriation of Kennewwick man on the basis that he was not Native American and that White researchers were being denied their Civil Rights.

This phenomenon is not just limited to ethnic research or Afrocentrism, as some researchers would like us to believe. Of course, somebody probably should have asked Emma Dunham's family earlier than now.
