Wow! What wonderful oral history you all have been blessed with. Coincidently, I read a slave narrative yesterday of a man who also claimed Madagascar ancestry. James Brittain of Coahoma County, Mississippi stated in his narrative:
"My grandma came from Virginia. She used to tell us the most wonderful things that happened there. One thing in particular she told about the stars falling. She could remember everything about it as she was going on thirteen years old when they fell. When my grandma died she was one hundred and ten years old. She said she was a Molly Gasca negro. That was the race she belonged to. She sure did look different from any the rest of us. Her hair it was fine as silk and hung down below her waist. The folks said Old Miss was jealous of her and Old Master. I don't know how that was. Old Master Joe was a mighty whisky man. He stayed drunk most all the time. Old Miss she was mighty fractious."
