An Old Wives' Tale: a woman should not eat fish until a month after childbirth or she will die or become violently ill.

My grandmother told me this when I was a young mother, but MY mother scoffed at it. Apparently, the hospital staff had never heard of it and served me fish the next day after giving birth to my first child. Go figure.
