Re: Hickman brothers from Madagascar
In Response To: Hickman brothers from Madagascar ()
Yes. This was told to me by my mother and her late grandfather, Edward M. Fountain. I was told that his mother, Mary Elizabeth Johnson-Fountain was from Madagascar, and born "a freed slave" in Federick County, MD. By 1900, she married James A. Fountain of Virginia (who my mom recently told me, came from Madagascar as well, but I don't recall my great-grandfather ever stating this, but doesn't make it incorrect information either) and settled in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where they raised their four children, my great-grandfather, Edward being the youngest. I’m a total novice working on my family tree, and I'd really love help in finding out the exact place my great, great grandmother Mary is from in Madagascar, and the origin of my great, great-grandfather, James. I have some family records that were given to me by an older cousin (my great-grandfather's niece), which has been extremely helpful to me, and some I've found online that were helpful as well, but there some holes that need to be filled. Thank you! Holly
