Yes, many captured Africans were taken from the Senegambia region. Many Africans from the Senegambia (Senegal and the Gambia) region were transported to Charleston, S.C. Therefore, it is very possible that a number of African-Americans have Senegambian ancestors. I think Rodney Sam from the Main forum has traced back to one ancestor who was Wolof from Senegal.

My family and I visited Senegal and the Gambia in 2001. Great great experience! One African brotha came up to my uncle (mother's brother) in Dakar, Senegal and told him that he looks like the people of Northern Senegal. What is interesting is that the Fulani heavily populates the northern part of Senegal. When my 1st cousin (mother's sister's daughter) took the MatriClan test, it revealed that our mtDNA matched the Fulani of Northern Cameroon. But, my uncle, I am told, is the spitting image of his maternal grandfather, my great-grandfather, John H. Davis. So, that DNA test did not represent John's line, but John's wife's line...my uncle's maternal grandmother. Strange, but true.

Maybe if I test someone in the Davis line, it'll be interesting if someone matches the people of Northern Senegal.

I do believe Africans have the ability to pick out certain features in African-Americans and link those features to certain ethnic groups.
