Re: Mende, Temne, Kru ancestry
In Response To: Re: Mende, Temne, Kru ancestry ()
I"ve been sitting on my DNA test results from African Ancestry dot com for the last two years and didn't have a clue where to go with them. But after looking over this thread, I think i'm in the middle of an "ahaaaa" moment. My patriclan results match 100% with the Mbuti(aka Pygmie) people from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. My matrican results match with the Temne people from Sierra Leone. So far my earliest identified 'direct' matrilineal ancestor, as in my mother's mother's mother, is my Great great great grandmother; Bettie, the wife of Pompey Anderson. Who was born around 1843 in Pittsylvania Co. Virgina and lived up until the early 1900's. Now of course, I'd love to be able to connect GGG grandma Bettie with her earliest identifiable enslaved african-american ancestor, and perhaps even identify her port of entry in the U.S. and perhaps even identify the name of the ship that brought her, Which is a direction i'll probably get to eventually. But....what i can begin to do right now, from the comfort of my computer screen, coupled with the Marriage and death registers that I've already examined and photocopied..... , is to identify Bettie Andersons daughters, and look for the daughters of her daughters, and then all the daughters of the daughters of her daughters. As a male descendant, even if I had children, my Matrilineal DNA isn't something i'd be passing on anyway. But....that doesn't mean that all of my sistas, can benefit from my labors. So... for all of the Temne's from Virginia. Holla!!!
