Cape Verde Islands
I am the eldest granddaughter of a Cape Verdean, whom I have never had the opportunity to meet. He was Antoni Gomes from Brava, born about 1900 came to the port of New Bedford on the Diana about May 14, 1915. For a time he stayed with his aunt Maria Corriea Gonslaves at 37 Second Street, New Bedford, MA before relocating to Freeport, New York. He worked as a laborer and the oral history is that "he jumped ship to stay in America." He served in the Navy in WWI, married my grandmother, Everline Parrish, in 1924 Freeport, NY. His parents were Joseph Gomes and Ana Maria Corriea. He married Everliner Parrish 2/4/1924 in Freeport, NY and fathered 3 children, Annabelle, Joseph and MIldred Gomes before she died in 1929. Have been searching for 10 years and trying to get more suggestions and leads on him. He died between 1937-1940 in Freeport, NY or Roxbury, MA. Any information or suggestions to remove some of the roadblocks would be greatly appreciated.
