It wasn't my Major, but whenever I could
I added more than couple of African American Studies Courses or attended lectures to supplement! I was very fortunate to be able to do that.
I've always had interest in the Fon Culture & kiKongo Cosmograms
I remember there was one lecture on Mami Wata in the Carolinas, that
tied in a lot of the folktales & superstitions, that I've heard before from the Low country & Caribbean. Another was on the references in music of Toto Bissainthe, the history of Congo Square or Fela Anikulapo Kuti or the subtle things in Euzan Palcy's, Ousmane Sembene's & Julie Dash's cinematography.

Many People do not realize there has always been & there is still so much African Symbolism, in African American & Afro Caribbean Literature, Art & Music (even in some earlier "rap" to lucumi or the beats in gwo ka music ) some hidden & some not so hidden.
