I took a course in College,
Under African American Studies, On African
Symbolism in the Diaspora in Literature, Music & Art in the Americas. (it focused Mississippi, Alabama Louisiana & the Carolinas)
There were many lectures & films, Listening
to music (like Robert Johnson, a lot of older Blues songs . Gospel songs, Jazz songs During Slavery, Work / Prison Chain gang Songs &
music of Boukman Eksperyans, the Derose, Ram, Rara Carnival & Other Music Artist the Course had a lot
of slides of symbols in African American folk art, Cuban Art, Haitian Art )
- I was required to read a few books on a list , like Flash of the Spirit by Robert Farris Thompson & the The Serpent and the Rainbow by Wade Davis along with another book that dealt with African Mythology (by Parinder?)
& Stories of Doctor Buzzard.
The Course did not cover everything
but it was really interesting!
