Re: New Show "Find My Family"
In Response To: New Show "Find My Family" ()
I just saw his advertised yesterday. I haven't had a chance to look into what the show is actually about. I have watched episodes of the Locator. Some reunions have been received by the adoptee, birthparents or boths. Some have not been as receptive.
As an adoptive parent, I am open to the day when/if she decides to pursue her search. She also has known. I too, would prefer to have a private search.
I guess the reality show probably comes with perks. From watching some of the Locator shows I have punched names into my labtop and I have found information the same as they have found in between commericals. Maybe some people see it as a hard, expensive process and just don't know what to do and that's why they seek outside help or think that help that is associated with the media will get them better results.
In my search for my aunt a few years ago, I contacted a local news station there and told them that I found my aunt after 58 years. My purpose was to show that a family that had been separated for 58 years were reunited. After an online interview with a reporter, I began to see that they wanted a different angle. They wanted to concentrate on "WHY" the sister and brothers did not stay in contact with each other. After I refused their angle, then they decided that it wasn't a story that they wanted to report on. So, that's when I learned that although finding her was just awesome for my dad and his family, it just was not worth anyone being put in the spotlight on why family members never let the children visit each other after their mother's death.
I guess, to each its own. I've helped many adoptees find their families, but all of them have been privately. I will check out the show though to see what it's about. I don't think it comes on here until next week.
