Yes! You know I totally agree with you.
At least once a week I am getting a friends request from a family member who has just joined Facebook. I've mentioned that there is a community of us growing on there in my monthly emails to the family, and since I've done so, more and more people have been joining and also becoming a part of our group on there. I have no idea the exact number of family members that I'm linked to, but I think it's somehwere in the neighborhood of about 40 to 50. This tool also helps to track people as well. Using the US Public Records Database or Phone Directory on Ancestry helps, but some of the information is outdated. I've coupled MySpace and Facebook with looking through county public records online and narrowed down where people are, found additional children, grandchildren, all that. I think that a genealogist needs to utilize resources such as Facebook and MySpace because they can truly bridge the gap between the family and lost lines. Messages In This Thread |
