I am not a agency , I am a African American woman who is trying to adopt and I have researched and sat in informative meetings where they repeatedly say "we need homes for our AA ( African American) birthmothers, yet there is no assistance for us to adopt, the agencies want $10-$35,000 for the adoptions, which as they say includes homestudy ( $1,500-$3,000) they tell us there are grants but you can't apply for them until you have almost paid at least half of the total fees, today I was told about an affordable adoption that will cost me $15,300...

They tell you to get a loan, I have talked to some adoptive parents who got loans for their adoption and now they are either in debt or re- financing their home. I do not want to do that - I do not want to take away from my family income to adopt, if I do that will also be taking away from the baby as well. I have made a choice for Independent Adoption.
