Re: A LITTLE THANKS WILL DO
In Response To: Re: A LITTLE THANKS WILL DO ()
Mel..Forgive me, but..I'm just cracking up at this post..It seems like I should have wrote it. I don't have a whole lot to share with people because a whole lot of people don't research in Bradley County, AR. But, in that county, I do have a lot of research material. I belong to the county's mailing list, along with the state list mailing list. I *try* to help whenever I can. I remember (and this is way off the 'help list' subject, I guess), I put together a family history book for my husband's family reunion. "I" who wasn't born a JORDAN came to know more about their past that 95% of the still living one's did. Anyway, I put together this book, pictures, family tales from my father-in-law (who is 83 years old), a list of family members with addresses and phone numbers. My husband and I went to Ready Print, had about 20 made (the book contained about 35 pages) and they only charged us $85 (the manager said he had never seen anything like it before, plus that, we had a picture of my husband's cousin Stacy Augmon and family and one of him and his team mates, plus that, he wanted a copy of the team picture.. who plays pro basketball, I'm not a fan, so, I don't know what team), and he wanted to use our book to advertise what they could do for Family Reunions. The Book came out beautiful. Well, my two sister-in-laws, thought they should receive one for free. My husband and I weren't trying to make money from the book, just pay our printing cost, and cover the mailings and phone calls we made to family members) so, with a little help from my mother-in-law, *they got there's for free*. Guess what? They haven't looked at it yet, so you know they haven't even said 'Thank You'. And this was last July when the reunion took place. I showed the book to a friend of mine, and told her that my husband charged his family members $10.00 for the book..she said 'Ohh, I have $10.00, make me one up about my family'! I fell out!!! I don't know, I think maybe it's the 'newer researchers' that haven't quite learned the 'rules' of sharing yet. What's that old saying..'First time..Shame on You, Second time..Shame on Me.' People will learn that in order to receive, they must give, at least a simple 'Thank You'.
