I saw a FANTASTIC program Sunday after the rebroadcast of African Lives On the Gulla/Geechee culture of Sapelo Island. I was unaware that it encompassed islands form Jacksonville, NC to Jacksonville,Fla. The Queen stated they were given 40 acres and a mule so that they would not be displaced. The elders are holding on to the land whereas the younger ones are eager to sell. It was truly a fascinating program and the one time she spoke in Gullah, then Geechee, I did not understand one word she spoke.
