Re: Wilberforce 1918
In Response To: William A. Joiner, Wilberforce 1918 ()
The president of Wilberforce from 1908 to 1920 was William Sanders Scarborough (1852-1926). He was Wilberforce's most famous scholar. I prepared the very first edition of his autobiography which was published by Wayne State University Press earlier this year. The account is filled with fascinating details from his birth as a slave in Macon, Georgia to his arrival at Wilberforce to teach Greek. During the 40 years he was affiliated with the Wilberforce community, he made freidns adn rubbed shoulders witha virtual who's who's of the 19th century. The account is 416 pages long with footnotes, photographs and a foreward by Henry Louis Gates, Jr.
