Re: VA and NC names I am researching

Hi April,

The Brodie's that you are researching in Franklin City, NC; do you happen to have any first names? If so, I am curious to know. I have been researching the Brodie name for some years now. I have traced The Brodie's back to 1754. (Columbia, S.C.) The African American generation (for my family) started with Violet Brodie (a slave) b. 1812. She gave birth to her Mulatto Son, Alfred Brodie in 1830. The Father was her white slave owners (John Wardlaw Brodie, Oakgrove Plantation, Rocky Springs (Aiken County, S.C.) brother Thomas Brodie (A farmer). Alfred was Violet's only child. (That I know of.) Alfred married Margaret Corley. (A neighboring slave) They had quite a few children.

1. George Brodie (School Teacher @ age 27)1854
2. Furman Lawrence Brodie ( Doctors degree in Theology)b.1855.
3. Miledge Brodie (Physician)
4. Leah Brodie (Seamstress)
5. Guy Brodie (Coachman) b. 1862
6. Judson Brodie (Janitor)b. 1863
7. Margaret Brodie
8. Alfred Brodie Jr.

These Brodie's were all born in the Mid to late 1800's. They all had families and children. I have most of thier names. (Too much to type.) Some of them moved to Mecklenburg, N.C. and other parts of N.C. Please give me some names, and hopefully I can assist you in your research.

Donna Brodie
