Re: Am I Grabbing at Straws?
In Response To: Re: Am I Grabbing at Straws? ()

Twilla, I--along with Polly--have been tracking the various Fitzpatrick slaves for some time, particularly those that wound up in Alabama. I am the descendant of a Fitzpatrick slave and have gotten as far as identifying my 3rd great grandmother among the slave holdings of Elam Fitzpatrick. Her name was Mary A. Lewis and her son, Ishmael (who later became a "Harper"), and perhaps daughters, Caroline and Adeline (Cat and Addy) were either sold off or took other names after Emancipation. There was also a daughter, Nellie, who became Nellie Walton and is somehow connected with the Peter Walton family. Incidentally, Benjamin Fitzpatrick, the one who became governor, is part of this family, but is apparently not one of the large slave-holding lines. Along with Polly, I would be interested in sharing information, also about the Waltons. I, too, have listed names from several Fitzpatrick wills, but do not see a Suzie listed. Perhaps she was born after Emancipation or chose to use a different name, rather than a slave name.

Incidentally, what is your web site?
