Watch out for the names of persons you are looking up. For instance, when I did a research on my father John Evans, I noticed something else here. Let's deal with beginnings: He was born in 1896,in Abbeville, South Carolina. His siblings were Ike Evans and Jessie Evans, 1898 and 1899. Anyway, as I researched, I came across someone who identified my father not as John but as Harry; this same person identified Ike Evans as Ira. We are dealing with the South. We are probably dealing with people who may have various reasons for the name change. This is always something to focus on during the research.
One more thing: towns, cities, and even counties do change; there are counties that have been organized as far back to the 1920s. McCormick South Carolina was formed from Abbeville County. So if you do not find your ancestor in one, check out the next county or two. Thankyou
