My Arkansas Trip

Peace and Blessings to you all! I can say 'Been there, but, didn't do all that'. My trip has come and gone. The first thing I did when I got off the plane was took a deep breath and said to myself, 'this is the air my ancestors breathed.' I felt like I was in another world, I tried to imagine all kinds of feelings that my ancestors felt when they lived there.

When we first got there (to Warren, we flew into Little Rock about a 1 1/2 hour drive) we went to my cousins house, he lives on 5 and a half acres of beautiful land. Anyway, we drove up to the sounds of loud (beautiful) music, the smell of bar-b-q (this was the first time I had deer and smothered gar fish), and a yard full of people. He walked up to the car and had the biggest smile and said 'here's my people'. I felt like I had known him all my life.

On Friday, I went to the courthouse, and family let me tell you, the family history center has nothing on those courthouses. There books everywhere. I found myself looking at things that weren't even related to my family. There was one book, a little thin one titled 'Sales receiptes and other notes, dated 1839-1847'. There were names of slave owners and the names of their slaves, their ages (approx) and their value. Well of course, I found myself getting copies of these pages. There were old dusty books way at the top of the book cases, and don't think I didn't try to get up there. The clerk came out and said 'what are you doing way up there'? I told her I was just looking, she told me just be careful not to fall. There was entirely too much to look at. I was in a complete ancestor daze!

Family, you just have to take a trip to your ancestral's a must in you life. The trip was one that I will always remember, and plan on returning to. I had a great time, and on the way home, all I could do was think about the 'reason I did my research.' It's because of my family..our history. I don't care if anybody else in my family is interested or not..I am. And I am proud of my ancestors..I think they know it, that's why they 'chose me.'

Love you All,
