I don't understand why you could not research a person's death certificate. The death of a person is generally public knowledge because many times the information that a person died is in the newspaper. It may be that your kin wants to hide something, but you should let her know that you know that you have the right to do death look-ips.
While I was in NYC, I went through hundreds of names on micrfilm before finding what I wanted. Many people at the Bureau of Records on Chabers Street were doing the same thing. Where were you dong your research?
