Re: Death Certificate Information

Gail,

We may have spoken before about the MANNS family. My grtgrandfather was Green MANNS who lived in Putnam County, FL, Palatka Precinct #10. His wife was Laura. According to the 1880 Census, they had seven childre: Francis-12, Sarah-11, Mary-10, Matilda-7, Jessie-6, Laura-4, and William-2. Green and Laura were born in SC. I imagine I'll have to check property holdings concerning slaves to find out exactly from where in SC they came.

Green was a homesteader in Florida. However, after his death land was lost or sold by family members. That part of the picture is fuzzy but it seems there must have been a big mess going on between family members. My mother had died by that time and my sisters and I didn't have much contact with that side of the family when my father remarried.

I do believe that Green and Laura had at least one more male child but I don't know what happened to him. There is always the possibility that he went to Maryland--smile. I had a second cousin Lynn MANNS who moved to NYC. The last place he lived was in the Bronx on Walton Avenue. He died in March 1992. He always stressed that my grtgrandfather corrected people when they called him MANN. He would say, "My name is MANNS." This may have been so, but when I look at the census in Putnam County in Palatka, there are people who have the name of MANN living in the same neighborhood. they may be related.

I don't know whether this is helpful but before I start rambling, I'll stop here.

Hal
