Re: Goins in Ohio ca 1900
In Response To: Goins in Ohio ca 1900 ()

Hi Robert,

Institutions (?).....Other than the archives at Wilberforce University, in Wilberforce, Ohio (Xenia) I'm at a loss. A shot in the dark may be a trip to the Library there in Mount Vernon, which is very nice, and view the microfilm of
Mount Vernon newspapers during the time period in question. During the late 19-teens and early 1920's many local newspapers had an Afro-American section and wrote about the "happenings" in the Black communities. ( ie. Church, Fraternal Origanizations etc.)

With Mount Vernon so near to Columbus, Ohio there may even be articles about Mount Vernon in the Columbus African-American newspapers during the time period you are searching

Also, if you have the time, a search through telephone books & city directories may lead you to some names of families still in the area, who were/are members of you grandfather's church
that may be of assistance.

Sorry I can't be of more help,

Art Thomas
