Cuffee's (health center)of Brooklyn, N.Y., Shaw's?
Is anyone familiar enough w/ Bedford Stuyvesant to have known a particular Cuffee family there w/ roots in Littleton, NC on their Shaw side? I ask because there is or was a Lola Cuffee Health Center on 465 Throop in Bedford. There is no telephone answer when I call there, and the local papers and libraries there do not know who Lola Cuffee was. In a 1955 Negro society section of the Littleton, NC newspaper, a "Lola Shaw Cuffee, Matthew M. Shaw and Freddie D. Shaw of Brooklyn, NY" are guests of Mr. and Mrs. James Harris. I know for a fact that in the 1920 census, those Harris' and my Shaw's lived on the same road.
Also, in an old Harvard library book called "History of the Negro", the North Carolina edition features the bio and photo of longtime Littleton and Roanoke Rapids, NC pastor Wesley H. Shaw, who died in 1919. His children included Lola,Rogers, Matthew and Fred. No real clues that they connect to my Shaw's, but the health center name caught my eye.
