Re: Boissiere - Relatives

It turns out that the household was not Caucasian. I had only looked at the index before and not the actual census record. I finally looked at the actual census record in the spring of 2002. It was indeed a household of my relatives! The person who created the index for this 1910 census record simply goofed while interpreting the handwriting of the census taker. That record was very significant to me. It revealed among other things that my Great Grandmother Celestine had a total of 14 children! The name spellings were even correct. Not Celletine, but Celestine, not Boissuere, but Boissiere. The persons were all shown as Mulattos, not White.

I originally wrote:

I hope to find Boissiere relatives via finding a link between Boissieres and Prescotts/Melancons. My deceased mother, Dora Selena Melancon(maiden N.) told me that we had relatives named Boissiere. My Grandfather's 1899 New Orleans Marriage document shows a witness "Widow E. L. Boissiere". My Great Grandmother, Celestine who married a Joseph Prescott after my grandfather's birth, died in 1910 in New Orleans. I know of no living Prescotts nor living Black Melancons who are proven to be relatives of mine. I suspect ther are many. It was about a year ago that I discovered that my Grandfather, Adolph Melancon had at least 7 Prescott half-siblings via his mother. I know of no known living or deceased Boissiere relatives.

A 1910 Census Record of a supposedly "Caucasian Boissiere Household" is shown as follows:

(Misspellings and other errors are common in census records.)

Head of Household: Marie Boissuere
Allen S 21
Oliver D 19
Camille D 13
"Prescott, Celletine" M 70
Phelomene SI 32
Margaret D 15

The Mother's name is similar to my Great Grandmother's name, Celestine Prescott. The age of the Camille is consistent with the info in a deceased (Black race)Camille Boissiere's SSN application. The mother of this deceased Camille Boissiere shown as "Lena Prescott" in Camille's 1937 SSN application. I know nothing about Lena Prescott. Camille may have been a relative other than a daughter to the head of the above household. There is no perfect match, but there appears to be some smoke insofar as a Boissiere-Prescott/ Melancon link.
