This collection of African American images features several hundred
photographs which were taken from the mid-1800s to the present time. This historical archive documents the African American
community in Syracuse, New York, in portraits, at weddings, proms, graduations, sporting events, and in everyday activities.
This digital collection represents one fourth of the complete collection which is housed at the Beauchamp Branch Library in
Syracuse. Initial funding for the project was provided in 1994 by the Documentary Heritage Program, New York State
Department of Education.
