I have located 2 deeds from Washington-Wilkes Georgia 1841 written by the person who owned my GGG Grandfather James WINGFIELD.
It appears in the documents that the owner is selling property/slaves to his children and wife.
My GGG Grandfather is identified in one of the deeds by name at age 5 years...
It seems an awfully complex manner in which to transfer ownership?
Does anyone know what the rationale would be behind such an action? Or is there info available online that explains "indentures" of this time period?
Thanks!
