Think I found Gr Uncle Sam in Shankletown
In an earlier post I was looking for Gr-Uncle Sam Stewart in Shankletown in 1930. I found him in 1900 in SC and had been looking for him in 1920 in SC where the rest of the family was until mid 1920's when they moved to NC. I think I found him in 1920 NC! For the 10 or 20th time I checked NC and found a "Sam Streed" in Shankle Township where I thought he lived, so I looked at the record and it seems to fit. His wife's name is listed as "Mehaly" close enough to "Mahala" her real name (Mahala is also his mother's name, which I just yesterday discovered, so I have passed him over a couple of times in other censuses). The age is about right; his children were not listed but would have been grown by 1920; he was born in SC, right also. What you think, is he my Sam Stewart? Oh year, turns out I already had a copy of that particular page cause cousins on my maternal side lived a few doors up and I didn't even notice the similarity in Sam Stewart and Sam Streed. I am so excited, just had to share it with somebody and I know you guys will understand. Thanks for listening and let me know if you think I've hit pay dirt.
