alt: yep, why 'hoard' your research...
Ingrid_Doweary: Well I haven't left the house yet 3rd, but I'm searching the DC Public Library online.
daviss: of course in order to publish it has to really be compelling and hit numerous lives as in Slaves In The Family by Edward Ball

NetNoir: um basically Umoja will be a knowledge engine to see what you do
daviss: AfriGeneas is a site devoted to African American genealogy, to researching African Ancestry in the Americas in particular and to genealogical research and resources in general Have you visited before
Ingrid_Doweary: I remember hearing of melanet.
NetNoir: yes I have
alt: and we 'chat' about all of the above NetNoir
NetNoir: i was tryign to figure out what resources to list with umoja
Selma: How to do research, where to look, helping folks to understand what they find..
Ingrid_Doweary: Unity knowledge engine, interesting concept, NetNoir.
NetNoir: yes -- bios, buinesses, locations, question and answer receipes
daviss: Have you dabbled in your family history at all NetNoir?

AYWalton: I see, well you are among a bunch of family history researchers, here.
Seventies Soulchild: Oh NetNoir.. hello!
AYWalton: I live in MD now, but research Ark/Oklahoma/Tenn and Mississippi.
Selma: Needless to say Texas is one of daviss areas of research

3rdthawkins: Me in Missouri but main research is in Texas and South Carolina, also Arkansas
AYWalton: and for a unique aspect of the diaspora, you are welcome to visit my website on the Freedmen of Indian Territory (now Oklahoma). These were the folks who were slaves in the Five Tribes. www.african-nativeamerican.com , a forgotten part of the diaspora---but we are there, nevertheless.
alt: most of us have websites and/or blogs... some of which you may be familiar with NetNoir
AYWalton: I do remember that name from somewhere, I think, NetNoir. Are you the founder of NetNoir.com?
NetNoir: proud new owner
AYWalton: is that right? Well congratulations.
NetNoir: thx cool ayw
AYWalton: I seem to remember the name from way back in the day, but have not seen or heard of it a very long time.

AYWalton: VKN knew them all. and does anyone ever hear from Electra Price? I think she was/is in California.
alt: I hear from Electra occasionly AYWalton, yes, she is still in the Bay area.
AYWalton: is that right? That's good to know. Is she still on the genealogy scene? wb Ingrid. Did you get bumped?
Spivey: Welcome back Ingrid_Doweary.
alt: she had and uncle that lived here in Springfield, Oh who recently passed away.
Ingrid_Doweary: Sorry was multitasking and got kicked off. Thanks Spivey and AY.
AYWalton: I know how that goes, Ingrid.
Seventies Soulchild: Hello Ingrid
Ingrid_Doweary: Hey Seventies.
NetNoir: your site is awesome AYW

AYWalton: I have other links that I can share with you as well.
NetNoir: that would be great
Seventies Soulchild: No.. thank you for reminding me to call. That is on my to-do list today.
AYWalton: I have a site on Arkansas black history, a weekly podcast, and a site for beginning genealogists.
Ingrid_Doweary: Still researching the muster sheets of your ancestor and I'll go to the monument this afternoon or tomorrow afternoon at the latest to photo graph the wall of honor.
alt: I forgot to ask.. at the AAHGS did a former chatter show up and help to volunteer?

Seventies Soulchild: :} daviss now... lol
AYWalton: is there an email address to reach you, NetNoir? I will send you links to the other sites.
Seventies Soulchild: Do you find the research interesting so far Ingrid_Doweary?
AYWalton: And of course you cannot overlook the massive site of AfriGeneas.
Ingrid_Doweary: African American Civil War Monument and Wall of Honor in Washington, DC Shaw Neighborhood-at the intersections of 10th and U Streets, and Vermont Avenue, NW.
Seventies Soulchild: Christine has a good site with ccharity.com
Ingrid_Doweary: Yes, I would like to compare the muster sheets with the Compendium publicaton.
Seventies Soulchild: their site is aacwm.org... I believe
Spivey: Ingrid_Doweary, is it possible for you to look up a name for me while you're there?
Ingrid_Doweary: This is it http://www.afroamcivilwar.org/
alt: just came from you site Netnoir... News, Politics & Opinion from an AA prespective, right?
Seventies Soulchild: Thank you Ingrid! lol
NetNoir: ayw yes email@example.com yes alt
Ingrid_Doweary: Sure Spivey which name with which regiment/state? YW Seventies
NetNoir: alt I'm working more on Umoja.com
AYWalton: I like that name kotoko. Do you have ties to Ghana, NetNoir?
alt: okay NetNoir
Spivey: KELSEY [Louis/Lewis] 54th Massachusetts Infantry Volunteers Ingrid_Doweary.
NetNoir: yes I want to include as many research sites
Seventies Soulchild: NetNoir, please do me a favor. If you are going to have a news feed please only serious news RELEVANT to black american & the disapora. Kind of like what Africana.com v.1 offered in the late 90's early 2000's
NetNoir: @seventies here's the problem
Ingrid_Doweary: Oh okay, Spivey. I'll check it out and photograph it.
NetNoir: most sites split between serious news and "high-traffic" news
Spivey: Oh, thank you so much, Ingrid_Doweary. Any and all information you can find I would appreciate.
Seventies Soulchild: Ah... well check out BlackTalkRadio.net ...
NetNoir: even npr will do celebrity news / info etc...
Seventies Soulchild: They never have a shortage of news national and local
alt: Ingrid_Doweary .. the plaque # for Louis Kelsey is E-154 if that will be of help.
NetNoir: my goal is to seperate the channels
Seventies Soulchild: I'm not saying don't have the high traffic news, just saying have some meat in the meal.
NetNoir: so that you can easily eat meat only
Ingrid_Doweary: That will help also, ALt. Thanks. Thanks for the line Seventies, I'll check it out.
Spivey: Geez, alt, how did you come up with that?
Seventies Soulchild: thank you. that's all I ask.
NetNoir: blacktalkradio.net is now a parking iste yes about ghana
alt: If I tell ya, I'llhave to shoot ya Spivey LOL LOL lOL
AYWalton: I suspect that NetNoir has good plans, and has to respond to their own calling in their own way. That is all any of us can do--do it our way. (hmm.......wasn't that a song?)
Spivey: Now, now, alt. This after you wrote about 'sharing'.
daviss: is that FranK AYWalton lol
Ingrid_Doweary: The information is listed with records emphasizing the soldier's name included with the monument.
alt: okay spivey try this http://www.civilwar.nps.gov/cwss/soldiers.cfm
Ingrid_Doweary: lol lol lol lol
NetNoir: thx ayw -- yes you have to have a mix of content
Seventies Soulchild: hmmm let me check NetNoir
alt: put in his name and it will give you the Plaque #
NetNoir: @seventies Umoja.com will be similar to africana
AYWalton: is that the name for sites like that, NetNoir?
NetNoir: except that eventually we'll allow users to write articles
Spivey: Thanks alt. That goes to show how lost we sometimes get and don't see the forest for the trees. I know about the Sailors and Soldiers System and never thought to check there.
AYWalton: I call those template sites....lots of links, kind of a generic kind of look with not much content. Looks like the blogtalkradio site is now for sale.
NetNoir: yes -- it's a domain parking site
AYWalton: somebody just holding it to someone who wants to buy, it?
Seventies Soulchild: blacktalkradio.ning.com check it out NetNoir
NetNoir: but you are right -- it's an ad template site
Ingrid_Doweary: Spivey, hopefully this will be of value to you also. Let me know if you're unable to access it. http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&db=nps_civilwarsoldiers&rank=1&new=1&MSAV=0&msT=1&gss=angs-d&gsfn=Louis&gsln=Kelsey&uidh=b41&=0&pcat=39&fh=3&h=3945877&recoff=1+3
Seventies Soulchild: Sorry about that, I guess he got rid of the .net site.
NetNoir: no worries http://umoja.com/people/bill-hayes/ <-- kind of a sample page but right now we are still testing the application
AYWalton: I hope your site goes well, and by all means do include a genealogy component, NetNoir. That would be great for the genealogy community.
Spivey: Thanks, Ingrid_Doweary.
Seventies Soulchild: Ok I've given my plug for the day! lol
Ingrid_Doweary: YW, Spivey Now you can also cross reference.
NetNoir: thx ayw, I'll link most of the sites and then maybe do a how-to
Ingrid_Doweary: Good for you Seventies Sounds good NetNoir.
NetNoir: Umoja.com is basically meant to provide a central source for info -- to start from so it will have text, and then aggregate from sources to get people started.
AYWalton: So Umoja is starting from the ground up and building, is that correct?
NetNoir: yup just finished the software
AYWalton: was there an Umoja site in the past? The name is familiar, but I am not sure if I am thinking of something else.
NetNoir: and we will use freebase (which uses wikipedia) to populate a lot of info well lots of people use "umoja"
alt: text sites appear hard to use NetNoir, unless they have a search feature for 'keyword' useage to get to speicific subject matter.
NetNoir: we'll have a decent category system and also keyword search
daviss: Selma, any word from your friend on that Newspaper in Va I asked you about.
alt: good NetNoir
