Daviss: I had a couple of dollars in the casino bin when they took it all back AYWalton lol
Seventies: If I go and get ahead I'm OUT! lol
AYWalton: oh well........the most I ever spend is 10 at the casino. Money I can afford to throw away.
Seventies: I'm going to at least try to break even.
AYWalton: I consider it a "donation". lol
Seventies: lol
AYWalton: and never spend what you win. Just spend what you take and don't mind losing. take what you win and put it away.
Seventies: I see that my Adams County, MS folk are getting on the research bandwagon. I'm happy about this.
alt: that's good advice AYWalton, but ............. LOL lOL
Seventies: lol
Daviss: I went to relax and get my mind off of things and so glad I did
AYWalton: lol, I know, I know.........
alt: wonderful Seventies
Daviss: thats good to hear seventies, that will really help everyone in their quest for knowledge
AYWalton: I am trying to find the episode on History Detectives with the GAR photo that had George Geders's ancestor. howdy Selma!
Daviss: heyy Selma!
alt: Hi Selma .. how goes it?
Selma: Good Monday afternoon folks
Seventies: One is a descendant of Susie B. West, an early Afo-American educator in Natchez, MS. There is a school named after her and there is lots of info on her at the local AA historical society. The descendant is looking for Susie's parents.
alt: maybe a search on Connecticut GAR will find it AYWalton
Seventies: hi Selma!
AYWalton: I have been googling and searching even on the PBS site. Can't pull up the original episode.
Selma: You have the person's name AY? Don't you think George would have the link?
Seventies: Ok I'm going to go get some lunch... brb
AYWalton: I have asked him about it. Waiting for response.
alt: Selma, thanks for the Merchant/Fields information .. I"m back on that trail for a 'hot minute' LOL
Selma: LOL Told you I was a pack rat
alt: if I didn't believe it before, I certainly do now.
Daviss: http://tinyurl.com/7waxsyj For AYWalton
Selma: But the family's do live in an area I do research Or appear to
AYWalton: link won't open, Daviss
alt: yeah Selma, I'm back looking at folks in the Roanoke-Bedford-Lynchburg area.
Selma: Opened for me AY
Daviss: me too
alt: me too
Daviss: http://tinyurl.com/7waxsyj try it again AYWalton
AYWalton: it only makes the chat box highlighted and won't open. Email it to me if you can. thanks.
Selma: Did you send me an email alt...I haven't opened my email yet..
AYWalton: phone call.
alt: Angela, I liked your posting on the feeling you got when looking at the 1940 census and not seeing folks you've seen on census records from the 1800's ... you explained the empty feeling I had when I didin't see my maternal great-grandparents on the cenusus, since I had seen them from 1860 to 1930 ... very sad.
Selma: You do know that anyone under the age of 20 doesn't know what that "black phone symbol" is
Daviss: oops
alt: no I didn't send an email Selma.. don't want to be a 'pest'. LOL
Selma: I just turned my computer on..I decided that if I put on in the AM..I never get anything done
Daviss: I can only imagine that feeling alt for now mabe when I find my own folks
alt: very sad Daviss, gives a sense of 'closure' even tho you have DC's & Obits.
Daviss: and see who is surrounding then yep I was thinking this morning about primary resources and about my great grands dc and secondary sources not resources but sources
alt: the more docs the merrier Daviss, even tho's they often give conflicting information.
Daviss: I am sure I have her in 70, great aunt says she was born in 76 a couple yrs difference in the other census as far as ages go sheesh
alt: yeah, those age difference can be a nuisance.
Daviss: I would love to get my hands on her application for the Eastern Star but so far no go
Selma: They won't share? or it doesn't exist
alt: that would be tough to get Daviss, probably one of those records that have to be found among personal papers.
Daviss: well the National office said that the texas office should have it and the texas office wont give me a call back or email
Selma: Do you know someone in the group who could query on on your behalf
Daviss: The National Office only has her name and address plus the name of the person who was over them locally. Of course all those people are deceased
alt: I'm not sure 'local' offices know what they can, or can not, ofically share Daviss.
Daviss: I sent a letter knowing that it would come back "undelivered" so I just tucked it away unopened
Selma: Do they have a website daviss?
Seventies: Are those applications some type of state secret or something? Seems like it would only be 'secret' based on the type of information they ask for.
Daviss: I talked to the Secy and to the pres of the Texas group who promised on at least 4 occasions to get back with me so I gave up with them and cursed under my breath
Seventies: lol at least you thought it was under your breath.. lol
alt: Seventies, it is very difficult to get personal information about the membership for almost any type of fraternal or societal (sp) organization
Seventies: I can understand that, but I would think that after a certain time frame those records would be made public to a certain degree.
alt: not really, that's why they are called 'secret' organizations LOL LOL
Seventies: Kind of like how FOIA allows people to get information, but certain items are blacked out... They aren't secret if EVERYONE and their mama knows about them! lol And knows someone in the group.. lol
alt: they don't let the public in on much of their ceremonial and personal business at least they aren't supposed to and are not required to do so under any FOIA.
Seventies: Yes, I can understand that. Daviss, well you should kind of look to other sources because I think what alt is saying in a nice way is that you have a snowball's chance in h3ll of getting those records.
alt: in a word that's it Seventies LOL LOL LOL
Selma: Well folks I need to run...have a great day..(alt you can send me the query)
Seventies: Just have to call it like I read it.. lol lol lol
Selma: Bye
Seventies: bye Selma Where is vkn today? Still entertaining her Benham folks?
Daviss: I have several sources but still would like to have more
alt: dunno, but vkn has been very busy 'putting out fires'.
Seventies: okay. I figured she would be after that fiasco with Afrigeneas being blocked. Updated links are super important. A lot of sites are coming out of the woodworks since last week that are compromised.
alt: off the subject, but I was watching a TV show last night ... Political Animals, or something like that, and the dialogue/language was shocking!!!!! didin't know they allowed that stuff on network TV, whew!!!!
Daviss: Seventies are you to busy to get me a list of those outdated links
Seventies: lol alt, yes. I try not to watch too much of that garbage. I know that there are some outdated links in the family reunion site Daviss. Maybe vkn or B.J. are working on getting those sites identified and removed.
Daviss: lol I think I said.......
Seventies: lol NO! lol
Daviss: no you are not to busy or no you will not lol
Seventies: OK I will check and see. I definitely don't have time to look through any other pages.
alt: oh, oh let me get outa here before sumpin' 'breaks out"
Seventies: lol naw, Daviss needs some comedic relief today.
Daviss: naw nothing gonna break out alt
Seventies: I'm taking more time on chat today because my boss is on vacay.. lol
alt: would canvassing the AfriGeneas Link's button on the Home Page and checking the URL's there reveal those that aren't working?
Seventies: But I do have a couple of large stacks that I want to knock out before Tuesday afternoon.
alt: color me gone LOL
Seventies: lol
Daviss: bye alt lol
Seventies: Anita must be calling.. lol
Daviss: called Selma and AYWalton too lol so large stacks meaning you need to boogie also
Seventies: Yes I do.. well call me before you all hit the road okay? And don't stop Tyler from going to see wrassling because his clothes are wrinkled... lol lol lol
Daviss: lol
Seventies: though boy oh boy I could relate to that! lol
Daviss: Not leaving til the 1st
Seventies: Oh that's right. Okay well I'll skeedaddle.. talk to you soon!
