alt: me too Selma, woulda never guessed it.
Selma: Now if you had said "tootsie roll"..I woulda known
Daviss: lol
Seventies: Its the Americanized version of it. Crab meat (cooked), sliced cucumber, Avocado and wrapped in seaweed and rice. LOL
alt: y'all sho nuff laying some good stuff on the lady researching Hezekiah Russell & his descendants.. she should be thrilled!!!!
Seventies: Once I ate a raw sushi... OMG Let's just sayI was hopping all day. Who is that? Where is that?
Daviss: She sure should alt you should have seen something thru your mail list seventies
Selma: When "she"..is she a she?..anyway they came into the chat Tuesday night, she kept talking about DC..but infact the person is in MD kent County in 1820
Seventies: No.. I don't think I'm subscribed to the mail list. Oh that issue
alt: yep Selma MD vs DC ... I thought it was a she, I could be wrong.
Selma: Its important to be specific that has impact on what you are looking for
alt: it sure does Selma one big lesson from this exchange.... FPOC records are 'plentiful' in both the US & Canada and if you're serious you can find them.
Daviss: looks like Lisa and others found them for her/him hi vkn!!!
vkn: Howdy all y'all
alt: plentiful.. in the sense that they are the same records used by 'white' genealogists in their US & Canada research.... vitals, land, census, directories, etc.
Seventies: Hi vkn
alt: Hi vkn
Selma: Afternoon vkn
Seventies: Did anyone read the article about the last Africans in the Florida Keys?
alt: so it ain't 'magic'.

vkn: Was it a beached ship seventies
Seventies: Aw shucks.. now I can't even find the darn article!
Daviss: ok alt..the reason I asked was she was a newby to chat and I wondered if they were on the mailing list
alt: and I thought she/he said they had just found Afrigeneas.
Daviss: wb seventies
alt: perhaps not familiar with the 'routine' of being helped yet.
Daviss: right! did you find the link seventies?
Seventies: http://www.melfisher.org/exhibitions/lastslaveships/africanskw.htm Yes! lol
Daviss: ok thx
Seventies: Here's another clip from Wilmington on Fire. This researcher Kent Chatfield put together public documents to show how this event took place. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbE0R2-kzD4&feature=youtu.be
vkn: Thanx seventies i have read of the circumstances previously. Event happens after the ship landed at Mobile
alt: nice feature on Key West Seventies .. the list of supplies is fantastic!!!
Seventies: okay. Yes it was pretty interesting alt.
vkn: The Clotilde is touted as the last slave ship but the link you posted puts that in dispute, Seventies
Seventies: I think that it is ironic that the Marshal was named Moreno.... This is something that was posted on facebook and I just couldn't pass up sharing this with you all.
vkn: I am so glad you did
Daviss: I am curious about the auction off of the collection that Montague had. Did they find a place to house it yet rather to buy and house
Seventies: Good question Daviss. Hadn't heard anything about it except it was in storage.
AYWalton: Good afternoon, all.
Daviss: Afternoon AYWalton!

Seventies: That's good. Nothing much is going on here. Just sharing a few links with the group
Daviss: you are off again next week arent you AYWalton?
AYWalton: of course I am dealing with a mild case of allergies/postnasal drip turned into bronchitis. But it is getting better. Yes, and off to Philadelphia on Saturday, but that is a 1 day trip. And then on June 10, off to Birminham.
keli1: good after noon cousins!
AYWalton: howdy keli1

AYWalton: some new challenges, keli1?
vkn: Someone posted that FL was indexed Not so in my searching
keli1: no not knew ones, just the same ones, I might have to conclude the info is just not there
Selma: or yet to be discovered keli..
Seventies: I do know you can search FL on family search, vkn
AYWalton: FL is indexed and searchable, now.
vkn: hmmmm will try again seventies
Daviss: It is searchable but not fully
AYWalton: on Family Search site it says that it is searchable.
Seventies: Yes I was searching for some Callins
vkn: thanx ayw
keli1: that is for sure Selma, I will put on hold for a while and then pick it up again
alt: indexed does not always mean searchable vkn... browsable, but not searchable as we are now used to.
Daviss: not indexed just searchable
AYWalton: I look at the map on FamilySearch.org
vkn: gotcha alt
AYWalton: https://familysearch.org/1940census/?cid=fsHomeT1940Text_v2
vkn: aaaaahhhh ok
AYWalton: hover your mouse over the state and the status ...the status will appear.
vkn: I have been taking the lazy way out but I will test the hovering
AYWalton: lol
Selma: LOL That doesn't sound like you vkn.. LOL
keli1: I haven't indexed in a few days, so feeling a bit guilty
alt: I've gotten lazy vkn,,, waiting for what I call indexed & searchable
vkn: Getting tired Selma stuff be catching up with me lol
AYWalton: One thing I have felt while looking at 1940 census is a tiny bit of sadness, because many of the folks living in the 1930s had died---this is the first year that many who were born enslaved were now gone. so the tie to those who survived slavery had ended. the gr. grandparents were gone---except for Sallie---who lived till 1961. She was born during the Civil War years. Keli1 are you still indexing?
vkn: Yes my grands were all deceased pre 1930
keli1: oh good point AY, it is sad, but happy for most of our parents, to be seen yes still indexing
Selma: Still haven't found my Mom..waiting for NY to be complete
alt: true AYWalton , I have many born int he 1850's & 1860's who died in the decade between 1930 & 1940.
AYWalton: I have my mom, but not my dad.
Selma: You still haven't found your Dad..I was about to ask
keli1: i got both of mine, dad was born in 1924 and mom 1930, but after the 1930 census was taken, so she showed up in 1940
AYWalton: I know he was in the same city he was in 1930, but I guess he was part of the undercount.
alt: parents and some friends keli1 LOL LOL LOL .....
keli1: selma what are their names
Selma: You mean my Mom keli?
keli1: yea, in case I index that area
Selma: The surname is HOSTEN
vkn: Dad 1876-1938 Mom 1892-1974
Selma: When she was visiting..she gave me the streets that she thought she was living on..but did not see.
AYWalton: Did you all see the Forensic Genealogy Institute?
keli1: oh yes, I would love to take it AY
Selma: Did find some cousins living on West 116th street..
AYWalton: Also I see that SLIG in Salt Lake is now open for registration, or will be.
keli1: Selma where in NY?
Selma: In Manhatten
vkn: Forensic is where the money is ayw
Selma: I looked at my neighborhood where we moved in the 1960's..it was just about all Italian in the 1940's
AYWalton: some of those folks are making mega bucks. No Afr. Am presenters this year, but I hope they will have some for next year, since they are holding the Afr. American track at SLIG. It is interesting Selma to see who was living in your house before your family moved there.
Selma: Yes..
alt: so you get to see the changing demographics of your neighborhood, huh Selma?
Selma: Found the apartment buidling where I grew up in the 1950's in the Bronx too

AYWalton: I saw that vehicle 3 times that day!
vkn: Sounds like a good session from blogradio 2nite Is it a repeat? Bernice is getting really good press
AYWalton: First at Sam's Club, then at Starbucks, then at a red light!
Selma: Yes..looking forward to tonight vkn

Selma: I am a Bronx girl seventies.. lOL
HistoryBuff: While I appreciate all of Bernice's BlogTalkRadio sessions, the cemetery preservation is the one that's my ears burning.

AYWalton: that was a good show.
Seventies: ah huh. My cousin lives in the Bronx.
AYWalton: well I am going to run, folks. Have a great day everyone.
alt: I'll be listening to the show tonite, if I can stay awake... it will be interesting to hear how they know it was the "first" slave narrative.
HistoryBuff: Good question, Alt.
Selma: Probably from the publication date alt
alt: 'first' & "only' are two words that scare me when speaking of things in an historical perspective.
HistoryBuff: How so, Alt?
alt: I like one of the first and one of the few. just for accuracies sake.
Selma: Well folks I have to run..hopefully will see you all tonite..if I can stay awake too.. LOL
