Chatters: alt, AYWalton, Daviss, deannie, jhonora, Keli1, Selma, Seventies Soulchild
Selma: Good Sunday morning seventies Will be right back
deannie: Morning
Seventies Soulchild: Good morning deannie
deannie: We are early how has your weekend been
Seventies Soulchild: I've been totally drained. Coming down with a cold... How are you doing?
alt: good morning ladies... deannie & seventies souldhild
Seventies Soulchild: hi alt Let me share my funny story of the week. . .
alt: okay
deannie: Hi alt
Seventies Soulchild: I went to the casino on Friday night!
alt: hi lady
Seventies Soulchild: LOL
deannie: Take care of yourself the holidays are coming
Seventies Soulchild: And lost $10
alt: How long did that take you? a minute?
Seventies Soulchild: No a couple of hours.... lol I was playing the cheapest machines I could find... lol I'm just not a casino person. A co-worker invited me out. But boy oh boy did I laugh my butt off!
alt: okay, I can understand that.... a co-worker, and invited, huh?
Seventies Soulchild: yes. She is in the casino age group But what had me going were the people dancing.
alt: Us people or those people? Hello Daviss, how are ya?
Daviss: good morning alt, deannie and seventies! I am here alt lol how about you?
deannie: Morning Daviss how are u
alt: feeling better Daviss ?
Daviss: Its raining a few cats and dogs here
alt: are you feeling better Daviss?
Seventies Soulchild: Hi Daviss
alt: if it's raing 'cats & dogs' in PHX that must be some rain.
Seventies Soulchild: alt, those people... lol And boy oh boy they cannot dance!
Daviss: well yes and no alt. I felt better yesterday but now I AM BACK TO THE SAME OLD SOUP
Seventies Soulchild: well I hope you feel better Daviss. If its any consolation I'm coming down with a cold too.
alt: oh my, take care of yourself Daviss ... can't be having relapses.
Seventies Soulchild: I was coughing a bit this morning. Time to pull out the neti pot hi keli1
alt: hello Keli1,, how are ya doing today?
Daviss: I have been meaning to tell you seventies, You had told me about that pot before lol
Keli1: Good morning to all! it's Sunday, I hope all is well...its 50 degrees in Central VA
Seventies Soulchild: lol I thought so!
Daviss: I guess my memory is not like it used to be when I was your age lol
Seventies Soulchild: And you didn't use it... now look what happened... lol
Daviss: heyyyy keli1 I guess seventies lol lol keli1 did you understand your McDonald results lol
Keli1: oh heck no I didn't, where do they come up with that stuff!
Seventies Soulchild: I've been reading the responses on the DNA group on facebook... smh
Daviss: yo no se nada keli1
Keli1: what happened to the african I have from my other DNA, no Tribe of Tikra from Cameroon, they saying Mandenka...what the heck...it is too deep for me
Daviss: I guess they have some type of scientifiic formula
alt: Seventies Soulchild, I think I'm gonna have to take a break from that FB page, it's getting to be too .......... for me.
Seventies Soulchild: lol alt... I hear you.
Daviss: what are those ....... alt? lol
Keli1: Art, try visiting only a couple of days per week, you won't miss anything, folks can send you a message...I have to get my butt up walking 10 minutes every hour
Seventies Soulchild: I've had to take a break from some of the facebook gropus I belong to. Now I'm back to my hair care group. groups not gropus Some of its just mass confusion.
alt: it's taken the form of 'curiousity'... not genealogy & certainly not scentific... IMHO... folks can't get back to 1910 and they're trying to jump into some specific place in Africa before 1800.
Seventies Soulchild: Agree
Daviss: what dna co gave you the Tikra keli1
Seventies Soulchild: Even in a general sense its not historic at all. The Guinea Bissau page, which is part ofthe DNA grouping pages, is just all over the place.
Keli1: oops Tikar, african ancestry, Kittles, etc, which he is same for 23andme
Daviss: so kittles is a part of 23andme?
Seventies Soulchild: He is on the page, promoting this particular project on 23andme page
Keli1: I think so, seems when I read, his name was listed, but check
Seventies Soulchild: I should say his picture was on there with a quote.
alt: Yes Seventies Soulchild and if I'm not mistaken the country of G_B isn't much larger than Delaware in land mass... Are the people talking about 'shipped from" or "orignated from"?
Keli1: I think they kicked off the African Ancestry research and then folks joined on,
Seventies Soulchild: originated from through DNA testing. Some of the people are nationals from Guinea Bissau
alt: I 'think' Dr. Kittles is ther more as a sponsor for the
Daviss: I was thinking they/we joined because of the free part lol
Seventies Soulchild: Of course! :}
alt: medical information rather than the DNA aspect
Seventies Soulchild: but my test is still sitting in the box If they want my genetics they will have to pay me for them.
Keli1: it has been interesting
alt: I took the 23andme test and I'm pleased to learn the results, but some folks seem to be going a little too far in interpreting the results IMHO
Seventies Soulchild: by some folks, Dr. Donald??? lol
Daviss: yours have lined up with the others you have taken haven haven't they alt
alt: the results of Dr. McDonald and other 3rd party analysis. Seventies Soulchild
Daviss: Dr McDonald is not on the page
Seventies Soulchild: oh okay.
Daviss: what about GenMatch
Seventies Soulchild: brb
alt: oh no, but his interpetation of the raw data is all over the place along with deCode (sp) & others.
Keli1: so in your view Mcdonald brings out the Europe, Africa and Asia, results that is my simple understanding of it
alt: Doesn't GEDmatch just 'plot' your results in algorithmn's.... comparing your raw data to others in their dtabase?
Keli1: the percentages do not add up or round up to what was on the summary
Daviss: no idea on gedmatch yet for me alt
Seventies Soulchild: ok so, to decode these results would you need to have a PhD or something?
alt: I think 23andme states they have a database of just 3 continental populations Europe, Africa & Asia.... Dr. McDonald incorporates a broader population database than 23andme... I think. not a PhD, but defininetly into math, statistics, etc. Seventies Soulchild
Seventies Soulchild: well I'm out then. :}
Daviss: before alt would not have been able to test at african ancestry. so now that they are gonna start the autosomal will he be able too?
Keli1: the break down is what I call it...but when they don't add up, I question it, just a bit confusing, I get what my genetic make up is, I was happy to see my link to France/French...
deannie: I have to running I have a gen meeting
Daviss: k deannie
alt: That's why Dr. Kittles AA, Inc.. can be more specific on African ancestry.... his database is primarily of African ethnicities.
Seventies Soulchild: thank goodness.
Keli1: that is so true and why he is finally getting noticed more in my opinon
Daviss: they are just to expensive for me and my purse though
alt: yeah Keli1, when yo look at those breakdowns and the +/- margins of error you get more than 100%.
Daviss: mabe one of these days
Seventies Soulchild: :?
Keli1: we brought Gina Paige to our AAHGS meeting,e tc, invited the public, about 40 people attended and they sold kits at reduced prices
Seventies Soulchild: But if its something worth having, its worth paying for. And I'm going to shut up now.
Daviss: so true but when I have to pay for 6 its too much for my purse lol
alt: You know he got started at Howard UNiv and the NY African Burial Gounds project.... he was a lready a PhD and that project gave him 'name' recognition.
Keli1: yea got that one Art...it took a few times to look at it and add them up, first I said they didn't...
Seventies Soulchild: yes.
Daviss: and those 6 are what I need
Keli1: good for him, I love the enthusiasm it has caused within the AA commnity
Seventies Soulchild: yes absolutely.
alt: and Gina is the 'marketing' person... an MBA from Stanford I believe... we had them at our gen group about 6 years ago.... Kittles is a Kappa and one of our members is a Kappa so he came to us thru 'brotherhood'. LOL
Daviss: did you go thru Kittles first Keli1
Seventies Soulchild: lol
Keli1: Mine from African Ancestry basically came back the same as 23andme, without the percentages...23 says 60% europe, AAncestry said no african, lol...had cousin do it for dad's mother line, tikar tribe, came back, only on paternal side, maternal is so mixed
Daviss: interesting
Keli1: Art you thinking about Salt Lake next year?
alt: in 2004 AA, Inc didn't give haplogroup assignments, or values for allelle's, and just recently started doing autosomal DNA (last month). just 'thinking' about it Keli1 LOL
Daviss: what about you Keli1
Keli1: it is a wealth of information and hoping to see how the relative finder works out, maybe to connect or help to combat some challenges. I am thinking of it, maybe submitting a presentation or something to be able to network
Daviss: oh that will be great keli1
Keli1: right now really concentrating on Ohio in May, learning some new powerpoint tricks, lol thinking of my WW2 research on a family member
alt: good luck with that Keli1... most of my 300+ matches are younger folks with virtually no genealogy research to back up their DNA findings... they can't get much past my generation LOL
Seventies Soulchild: what are you doing on PPT keli1?
alt: you will be in Ohio in May Keli1 ... lecture or visit... or both?
Keli1: I agree Art, but I can see birthdates and the younger ones are all "getting started" the layering with power point
Seventies Soulchild: oh okay
Daviss: Curt Witcher had some great visuals yesterday
Keli1: Ohio is lecture, doing it on the two "colored" families migrating to Ohio, one before Civil war and other after do you have a copy of his ppt Vicki?
Daviss: no, keli1 I do not
alt: was gonna ask Daviss, you DID get to his presentation... good.. I know he was happy to see Vicky with two "ss".
Daviss: yep he was lol there were 4 of us from my group
Keli1: Medina Co. I have locked down, the Morrow Co. is a challenge, but have to accept that there isn't much to offer, but telling their story and how I tracked them
alt: you had folks wondering 'who is the woman"?
Daviss: in fact one lady said , oh you know him lol
Keli1: he was in AZ @Davis with two SS
alt: where will you be in May, in Ohio Keli1?
Keli1: Cincinnati at NGS conference
alt: oh, okay... I'll see ya there...
Daviss: yes keli had a workshop on the military he had a workshop
Selma: Afternoon folks
alt: hello Selma, how are ya today?
Keli1: Art, I am looking forward to it, it is a great opportunity
Selma: Doing OK
Keli1: Hi Selma, how ya doing? Your friend and I are driving to Berryville tuesday to hear a talk...wish you were here to travel with us...
Daviss: I was trying to say, hello Selma
AYWalton: Good morning, all.
Selma: You mean Bob..
alt: Hello AYWalton
AYWalton: Howdy alt, Daviss, Keli1, Ms. Selma, SoulChile!
Daviss: hello AYWalton!
AYWalton: I hope you are all doing well.
Selma: Afternoon AY
AYWalton: I am here only for a few. (and multi-tasking as usual) lol
Keli1: hey there Angela the talk is an introduction to the AA communities in clarke county va. post Civil war by Maral S. Kalbian
AYWalton: glad you made it to Curt Witcher's lecture, Daviss.
Daviss: a few is better than none :?
AYWalton: sounds like a good lecture, Keli1.
Daviss: yes AYWalton it was well worth it
Keli1: yea it does and worth the drive
AYWalton: So many clues lie in the FB records about post war life in various communities.
alt: Keli1, your Medina Co. OH folks... were they in Chatham Twp.?
Keli1: my great great grandfather died there -didn't live there that we know of, he is my MIA person for 1870, he died 1874, but were living in the next county No they were in Westfield Twp
Daviss: It was nice to hear that he was one of the ones to help with the CWSS on the net
alt: okay Keli1. my Reno's were in Chatham Twp., of Medina at about the same time and some went to MI, you area.
Keli1: almost no change to the area a few houses on the 25 acres they owned, what is interesting is the rail road is behind the property, so far not finding too much on it, but wondering if there was a connection.
Selma: He died in Clarke County VA keli?
Keli1: Yes Art, mine were there 1858 to 1863--same time,
Daviss: does the family still own the property
alt: REno might have cut the hair of your ancestors LOL LOL
Keli1: Yes Selma, he had lived in Jefferson Co, from 1820 to 1860+, nothing in 1870 via census, he dies in 1874, in 1880 find his wife with daughter in Jefferson, I am assuming he visited someone and died, lol
Selma: What was the name
AYWalton: have to run.
Keli1: you might be right Art, the barbers...I need to pinpoint exactly how close there were, wonder if they knew each other, also, I believe the Imes were there as well, in Wayne Co. boarding Medina Lawson Goens/Goings, 12 July 1874
alt: they almost had to Keli1, not more than a handful of AA's in those counties.
Keli1: I stepped on the land, so need to look at the Reno's and see how far. Mine were farmers, yours had a business, wonder if they catered to whites and blacks
alt: during that period and even today.
Keli1: are you familiar with Imes, Joseph Davis married a MaryBell Imes, we think in Medina or Wayne, after he registered for CW, but haven't found anything to document that, they had a son in MICH, 1864, she died, and that trail is hot right now...lol
alt: from your DNA could they tell.... LOL.... the Reno's are listed as 'white' in some census records but the community knew them as people of color.
Keli1: oh heck no, I am not sure how they even thought they were colored ya know about Hector Davis, one of the largest slave traders/auction in Richmond, I am trying to find out more on him, so far not finding his line, Selma have yoou seen anything on him Art wife Mildred might of looked a bit, but never seen a picture of her
alt: okay Keli1.....
Keli1: what I was hoping was to find photos or newspaper clippings of something or someone...during that time, did you have luck with Reno's
Selma: Folks have to run...talk to you all later, have a great day
alt: Yes, I have found accounts of the Reno's in the Medina Gazette... and in Baskin & Batty's History of Medina Co., Ohio.
Keli1: I am hoping to find something on the Davis... Medina historical society has a family.com page
alt: good luck... the Ohio Historical Society has the Medina Gazette on microfilm.. might be able to get a copy form the FHC.
jhonora: Hello alt, Daviss, Keli1
Keli1: yea tuesday I am ordering it to see what I can find..
alt: oh really, is Margaret part of that page?
Keli1: hi jhonora! how are you
jhonora: Doing well, thanks
Keli1: yes she is Art, I joined the society
