AYWalton: good evening all
VKNGA: It is cold in these parts
AYWalton: Howdy Ms. Selma
Selma: Ah......AY ...good evening
AYWalton: Greeting, VKN!!!!!!!!!!!!! hey hey hey,it's honoray!
Selma: How goes the conference...
AYWalton: howdy jhonora! We missed you!
Selma: Think jhonora is multi tasking
AYWalton: it is over and all went wonderfully well.
VKNGA: Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyy AYW!!!!!!!!!!!!
AYWalton: Had a great time and after four presentations I am one tired soul!
Selma: I am sure you are...
AYWalton: Vicki and Thomas had tons of visitors to the table.
Selma: Whereis alt..
AYWalton: and we have lots of names. I will be blogging about it.
Selma: Oh great..I am sure VKN is glad to hear that.. LOL
VKNGA: Share the happenings I just bet you are a tad tired ayw
AYWalton: indeed.
VKNGA: Tons huh
AYWalton: sessions were fun---I only got to research on one day, and then I was at the convention center for the conference on Friday and Saturday.
VKNGA: Wonderful
AYWalton: good feedback and TONS of fun!
Selma: Is the library open tonite?
AYWalton: Robin Stone was a good speaker.
jhonora: Hey AYWalton, Selma, vknga
AYWalton: the place was too dark while she spoke to put her on film.
VKNGA: I am glad to hear that AYW
AYWalton: hey wassup, johonora. Lots of presenters frequently mentioned AfriGeneas as well.
jhonora: Glad the conference is going well
VKNGA: So about what was the registration total AYW
AYWalton: it is now over.
Selma: What time is there now?
AYWalton: I think it was about 200. I think Mr. Witcher had hoped for more, but considering the time of year and the recession, it was not that bad.
VKNGA: great
AYWalton: folks came from St. Louis, Chicago, other parts of Indiana, Maryland, Virginia and 1 from California.
Selma: Lisa?
AYWalton: ...and Michigan. yes, Lisa. she is a good presenter.
Selma: Was there a dinner tonite?
AYWalton: My buddy Argyrie is here---and we are having a post conference pajama party in my room. (well a handful of us are!)
Selma: Is daviss there in her PJ's.. LOL
VKNGA: yes how is daviss
AYWalton: she is on the way in her jammies (or comfortable clothing) and bringing her laptop, too.
VKNGA: Daviss has to catch an early flight hope she found a ride
AYWalton: she has called cab for her ride to the airport.
VKNGA: Soooooo Curt Witcher is satisfied, AYW? great re daviss and cab
AYWalton: Now I am not sure about that, VKN. He is kind of an apologetic kind of guy and I did not see complete enthusiasm coming out of him. I think he had hoped for higher numbers, I suspect.
VKNGA: okies
AYWalton: I asked Tim if Witcher was happy and he seemed to think that Witcher was a bit disappointed about the numbers. Of course the marketing could have been stronger.
VKNGA: yes Too little too late
AYWalton: just not enough.
Selma: Money is tight this year for lots of folks..plus seems as if lots of things going on
VKNGA: I do agree Selma and the future of money is tight and scary
AYWalton: yes, there is a recession going on as well.
Selma: Yes...personally I think it is going to be at least another 2 years before we see any let up
VKNGA: and it is a good thing that there seems to be an increase in local events genealogically
Seventies Soulchild: good evening all
AYWalton: I will say that I was disappointed in one thing---there were not many vendors.
VKNGA: was FTDNA there?
Selma: Were there alot of local folks there?
AYWalton: there were some but not that many. no one from DNA companies, nor software companies. let's put it this way. AfriGeneas was the only table that was genealogy related in the vendors area.
VKNGA: wow and gosh
AYWalton: the other were jewelry, no books, one lady with expensive art, somebody selling Frat/sorority stuff, and one lady selling key chains.
Selma: Wow is right... Wow again..
Seventies Soulchild: really??? Good lawd...
Selma: Evening seventies
Seventies Soulchild: Evening Selma
AYWalton: that was kind of odd, and I was disappointed at that.
VKNGA: howdy seventies
jhonora: I think disappointment is the right word, was there a very large planning committee?
VKNGA: Yes part of the fun at conferences is vendors
AYWalton: no one from Ancestry, or FamilyTreeDNA, or Sorenson, or RootsMagic, or.........
Seventies Soulchild: hey VKNGA, jhonora and AYWalton
AYWalton: exactly---I love going into the vendors area.
Selma: Is there an AA genealogical group in that area...
Seventies Soulchild: Well I went to an HBCU college fair today and saw much of the same. Everyone was selling something. :/
AYWalton: yes they were there and I did see them with a booth today. tons of jewelry always for sale at lots of HBCU type of events. here comes Vicki! welcome Indiana!!!!!!

Selma: Is that where we were that night?
Seventies Soulchild: I bet that was vicky's idea... lol
AYWalton: we had a time of it! And good food too! No we are at a different hotel completely, Selma.

Indiana Fever: we're not telling
AYWalton: what goes on in Indiana, STAYS in Indiana!
Indiana Fever: and we mean it lol
Seventies Soulchild: lol not if y'all are telling it on AfriGeneas chat! lol
VKNGA: lol
Seventies Soulchild: You all are cracking me up here!
Indiana Fever: seriously we had a great time and the folks seemed to linger at the AfriGeneas table
AYWalton: hey........I just saw what Indiana Fever wrote---I am not responsible for her margarita-enchanced slow typing. lol
Seventies Soulchild: lol
VKNGA: uh oh
AYWalton: oh yes----check this out.......... Our good friend daviss----STUMPED Lisa Lee!!! She siced Lisa on Mariah and Mariah bit her back! Lisa said if somebody had a question she could not answer, she would give them a free bag. A Got Genealogy bag. Well, our good friend siced Mariah on her!
Seventies Soulchild: ok
AYWalton: Well let's just say that she grabbed the bag and left he room!
Selma: Good for daviss...
VKNGA: that is too funny
AYWalton: Stumping Lisa completely! Mariah won that one! Lisa could NOT find her either! And Daviss got a brand new bag! (remember that song Papa's Got a Brand New Bag. Well, daviss got a brand new bag, too!)
Seventies Soulchild: lol yep Y'all I'm so tired...
AYWalton: why are you tired?
Seventies Soulchild: went to a college fair all day today in Queens
AYWalton: ahh yes, the college fairs! Was this a NACAC fair.
Seventies Soulchild: So you know I had a lot of GOOD questions. lol I think I gave those guys a run for their money.
Selma: Did they have a good turnout seventies
Seventies Soulchild: No HBCU fair sponsored by the local rep. It was pretty good. Small venue though.
Selma: Was this for your son seventies?
Seventies Soulchild: My sons are interested in Coppin and Alabama A&M Yes it was for my boys. I tell you the reps for AL A&M really sold the school to my son
Indiana Fever: Is that Coppin in NC
Seventies Soulchild: Maryland.
