Selma: Alt..Fort Monroe was decommissioned today..turned over to the State
Seventies Soulchild: Its an east coast thing.. lol

alt: Does that mean it is a State of VA park?
Selma: It is still up in the air..
Seventies Soulchild: I heard that they were going to make quite a few joint bases up in VA.
alt: was it under the National Park Service before?
Selma: I doubt that the whole site will become a National Park...
Seventies Soulchild: Maybe it will be national guard or state guard training grounds.
Selma: No it has never been under the National Park Service..

Selma: Many would like it to be a National Park..but my sense is that part will and the other part will be developed
alt: I was just aware of it's historical significance
Selma: That whole area was under Union Control throughouot the War It was built with slave labor in the early 1800's
alt: wasn't almost everything done that way in the early 1800's.... slave labor LOL

alt: Looks like the Confederate Soldier fella is taking 'another look' at his records. kind of backing off of his ancestor serving as a 'person of color'. even tho' he may have been known as such in his community.
Selma: Didn't he comment that the person had only been in the area for a "year"

Seventies Soulchild: Its simple either the ancestor received a pension or not. Or applied for the pension (confederate) or not.
alt: oh, he received a pension as a Union solider, but not as a USCT Seventies Soulchild
Seventies Soulchild: Oh yes, that person needs to review their documents.
alt: it is from his pension appllication that it states that he served with and was captured as a Confederate soldier.
Seventies Soulchild: So has anyone listened to Antoinette Harrell or Bernice's show lately?

Selma: It is an opportunity to meet other researchers but usually I go because I want to learn something new

Seventies Soulchild: welllll I am off to get some things done. My co-worker just lost her sister to cancer this morning and I'm trying to wrestle up some dollars from these military officers to help her defray her travel costs to P.R.

AYWalton: whatever I can find small containers--when I see the small Tobasco I get that, otherwise I will use some small packets I see here and there. I also like Louisiana hot sauce---but their bottles are too large to tote around. well folks I was just popping in for a brief hello. Going to fix something healthy for lunch right now.
