AYWalton: I have an ancestor who escaped with the assistance of a free black man. She was traveling with her slave owners and they were in Pittsburgh on route to either MD or VA and a community of free blacks helped her make it to Canada. this was a slave from Arkansas, no less.

AYWalton: no it was a southern confederate slave state. and it seceded from the Union just like the rest of the south.

AYWalton: take your pick---directly north of Louisiana and north east of TX. and the eastern part of Arkansas forms the western half of the Delta area.
