Seventies Soulchild: good
daviss: so seventies you are now an okie from Muscogee
Seventies Soulchild: lol looking into it
daviss: lol AYWalton may steer you into the right direction I am looking into Creek County for my ex hubbys folks.. They went to Bristow Ok from Ark
Seventies Soulchild: Yes didn't think my search would head that way.
daviss: I would imagine they went because of the abundance of land
Seventies Soulchild: yes from what I could gather Muskogee Co. was a boon of AA migration
daviss: Ok was new territory
Seventies Soulchild: I see that Chester, Scott Jr and Carrie all lived there.
alt: is Boley in Muscogee Co., OK ?
Seventies Soulchild: I'm not sure, alt. The places I'm looking at is Summit and Muskogee. is should be 'are;
daviss: not sure but I know it was a blk town
alt: okay, that's where they have the BIG Rodeo.... boley
Seventies Soulchild: I guess they went at a time, 1920's when it was still very rural
daviss: Big Rodeo's in Boley lol at least once upon a time
Seventies Soulchild: Chester and Scott lived together for a while. Don't know where Scott Jr. ended up though.
daviss: Langston another town
Seventies Soulchild: let me google this... I see when they first moved there that the lived like in a beat 1 type of location. Later they were in Muskogee, OK
AYWalton: Good afternoon, all.
Seventies Soulchild: Also, I looked through some Muskogee city directories and I wanted to know what does (o) mean next to a name?
AYWalton: hello at, daviss, SoulChile!
Seventies Soulchild: Hi AYWalton
daviss: okfuskee county is where Boley is art hello AYWalton!
alt: right daviss, just looked it up
AYWalton: Ooo yall are talking about my part of the country, Isee!
daviss: oops alt lol lol

Seventies Soulchild: lol just a little bit!
AYWalton: sounds good!

Seventies Soulchild: hi ProfDru

ProfDru: hello gang
Seventies Soulchild: from MS relocated to OK... lol
daviss: hello ProfDru
AYWalton: ProfDur is in da house!! when did your folks get to Oklahoma, SoulChile?
Seventies Soulchild: In the 1920's the first sibling arrived, followed by a brother then a sister
daviss: ProfDru I just read your email.. I will answer soon
ProfDru: ok vicky
AYWalton: ahh after statehood, then.
Seventies Soulchild: Well let me say they were on the 1920 census
AYWalton: they were late arrivals.
daviss: statehood was 1900 wasnt it aywalton?
Seventies Soulchild: yes after WWI. Trying to figure out the 'why' of them going there.
AYWalton: did the folks remain in Muskogee? Or relocate elsewehre. statehood was 1907.
daviss: ok ok so no cdensus until 10 census
Seventies Soulchild: One remained in Muskogee, the other two don't know.
AYWalton: actually there was a federal census conducted in Indian Territory in all of the nations in 1900.
Seventies Soulchild: I was thinking that they went there for land and opprotunity. On the 1920 census Uncle Chester Washington was listed as owning his land.
AYWalton: most land was already allotted, and/or homesteaded by the 1920s. Plus land grafters were there to trick folks out of their land like crazy during that time.
Seventies Soulchild: Then later Uncle Scott Jr. joined him
AYWalton: and some were selling their allotments as well. do you still have folks there SoulChile?
Seventies Soulchild: Let me take a look at my records.... Not sure... these would be my great grandfather's siblings
AYWalton: did you find them in 1930 still in OK?
daviss: come on 1940 census !!!
Seventies Soulchild: Yes. and scoped the city directories too.
AYWalton: ahhh that's good. then you may still have OK cousins.
Seventies Soulchild: Carrie Washington Gary resided there I believe until she died.
alt: daviss, I'm thinking of spending the $65.00 to get my 1940 census record... that will be when I first appear in the census.
daviss: I can imagine that at 12: a.m. the internet will be a-buzz
Seventies Soulchild: I wouldn't be surprise.d Apparently the Washingtons have wanderlust in their blood! lol
AYWalton: yes, around the world genealogists will quickly cause ancestry to crash! lol
Seventies Soulchild: lol
daviss: alt, you deont want to wait until next april lol
AYWalton: have you checked the death index to see if any died in OK,Soulchile?
daviss: I think you will onjly get that one page
Seventies Soulchild: No, not yet. This is something that I just made note of.
daviss: dang, I can spell, I just cant see
AYWalton: lol
Seventies Soulchild: make your screen bigger... lol
alt: nope daviss, kinda anxious to see what information it will have.. I know just the 'page' that deals with you, the requestor.
AYWalton: put on those glasses, and stop being cute. lol
Seventies Soulchild: lol lol
daviss: screen big can't type :? I cant help it AYWalton lol lol
Seventies Soulchild: Ok pulled up the records. In 1920 Chester and Scott were in Vann, OK.
alt: it's supposed to tell me where I was in 1835 & it will/should also have me in school for the first time.
Seventies Soulchild: 1835???
alt: Oops 1935, not 1835 LOL
Seventies Soulchild: lol ok you would'vebeen a wee little boy. Would you have been in school at the time of the census??
AYWalton: Vann, or Vian?
Seventies Soulchild: Vann
AYWalton: Vian is down the road from Muskogee. never heard of Vann.
daviss: yes alt, I pulled up the 1940 census copy and it should give lots of good information
alt: probably Seventies Soulchild. I was 6 y/o and should have been in the 1st grade
Seventies Soulchild: Maybe its an exininct town
AYWalton: no I bet it was Vian. What county?
Seventies Soulchild: Oh I thought you were born in '35 Muskogee
AYWalton: and it is pronounced Vy-Ann
alt: hello vkn, how be's ya?
AYWalton: greetings, vkn!!!!!!
daviss: hi vkn!!
vkn: Hey hey hey
Seventies Soulchild: ok... a mispelling AYWalton? or transcription error?? It says Vann Township Muskogee county, OK
AYWalton: let me check ancestry to see if I can decipher as well.
vkn: I be alt therefore I am oops now that is not original wid me lol
Seventies Soulchild: hello vkn Hi Selma
AYWalton: what was the surname?
alt: but you're still 'original' with me vkn LOL

Seventies Soulchild: roflmao funny, but that was Selma asking... lol
daviss: see lol
Selma: OK...I hadn't read back to see what you all were asking about... I'll save my $65 and wait till April 2012
alt: you won't be on 1940 will you Selma???
Seventies Soulchild: Me too Selma. Hey why pay if its going to be FREE.
Selma: Cause some folks can't wait seventies..too impatient
AYWalton: It must jsut be a section on Muskogee now, SoulChile. Here is the info from my Oklahoma Place Names book:
alt: we'll see how anxious , or unanxious y'all are when you will first appear in a cesnus page LOL
daviss: lol @alt
AYWalton: "In northern Muskogee County 6 miles south of Porum. A post office from 1894-1898. Named for Herman Vann, Cherokee jurist." So it does not exist anymore as a township.
Seventies Soulchild: Ah okay. in 1930, it is Muskogee, OK
AYWalton: And Vian, I knew was in Sequoyah county so that is a different place altogether.
Seventies Soulchild: ok
vkn: Well alt my name was spelled in error when I found me in 1930
alt: course Seventies Soulchild won't show up on a census page until about 2050 LOL
Seventies Soulchild: lol Yep
daviss: lol lol
Selma: Or so she says alt... lOL
alt: is that right vkn, I think I remember you telling me that
Seventies Soulchild: I'm a rambling rose... no one will be able to find me... lol in 2000 they didn't even ask my name when the census takers came by the house.
daviss: this census then should have numerous corrections on spellings
Selma: Why do you say that daviss?
AYWalton: I just found the town of Porum and it is to the south of Muskogee, so it was out in the country.
Seventies Soulchild: I suppose by then they will have other more sophisticated and technological records. ok
alt: by 2000 they already knew who you were when they came to your house Seventies Soulchild
vkn: It will not have corrections daviss just different spellings
daviss: more folks going to schools etc I would say thats really what I meant vkn
vkn: lol ok
daviss: my mother was called zeffie now hopefully it will say zepher
alt: vkn, were you excited to see yourself in the census record, even tho' your name was misspelled?
AYWalton: SoulChile when was Chester born?
daviss: Uncle Wilton should be Milton
Seventies Soulchild: Thanks for the info AYWalton 1889
AYWalton: I see a Chester Washington who died in OK in 1967 on the Death Index.
daviss: how did they spell your name vkn?
AYWalton: birth around 1894.
vkn: Yes alt and i figured my mother was the informant because only h er name was spelled correctly lol
Selma: LOL
alt: leave it to mama LOL
vkn: lol
Seventies Soulchild: hmmm could be him... 1889 is the year given on all other documents brb gotta get my lunch.
vkn: I think it was something like lavencia how else would one mess up Valencia Laverne. I will check it again to be updated daviss
Selma: Looks like they combined the two names vkn
AYWalton: SouChile was Scott much younger than Chester?
vkn: yuppers
daviss: AYWalton does you book just cover towns and cities in Ok
alt: y'all got the message that irita's father passed away last night?
AYWalton: the book is called Oklahoma Place Names.

AYWalton: yes, I just saw that a few minutes ago, alt. So sorry to hear that.

alt: it was 'anticipated' daviss
daviss: we called him the Scan King
alt: yes, the family did really enjoy each other.
daviss: I wonder AYWalton where one would get marriage records online for OK
AYWalton: a few marriage records are on familysearch.
daviss: yes not many
AYWalton: for example I have found marriage records from Arkansas on FamilySearch. but not from other places that I research.
daviss: I am looking for Bristow marriages
alt: might look at USGENWEB or a similiar site daviss, they often have county marrige records.
daviss: ok thanks alt
AYWalton: Bristow OK?
daviss: yes I don't know a maiden name of the bride though
alt: and even county hsitorical societies, this is one of those types of records you have to continually search the local sites for, as more and more records are coming online.
vkn: Quiet as it is kept USGenWeb is a gold mine to be mined
AYWalton: SoulChile do you have an approximate birth year for Scott?
Seventies Soulchild: Only 2 years
daviss: I use them for Harrison County vkn
alt: for sure vkn on USGENWEB
AYWalton: I use USGenWeb often. It is a good resource
Seventies Soulchild: sorry just trying to get oriented here. Scott was born in 1887 two years senior than Chester
alt: you know those County history books? OGS w/Heritage Pusuit just book all of the Ohio county history books online & searchable for OGS memebrs... a wonderful new resource

Seventies Soulchild: looking now daviss :} That looks right. there... thanks
vkn: It has promise but too many hits. Gotta learn to reduce the number
